Lost Summer - Week 1 Complete!

The Lost Summer project is underway and our first week was very successful.

Huge thanks to everyone who contributed in week 1:

  • Don Edwards from Salesforce Security, for two great discussions on "The Global Backdrop of Privacy, Security, and Data Sovereignty" and "Social Responsibility in Security Careers"

  • Phil Winstanley from AWS, another double-bill presenter, who gave fantastic sessions on both secure development lifecycles and threat modelling

  • Mathieu Gorge from Vigitrust, for a great presentation on "Cyber Accountability" and compliance mandates around security

  • Liban Mohamud from Verizon Connect, for a really practical and engaging walkthrough of mobile app security

  • Sinead Harrington for a really pragmatic and enlightening talk on building a security programme

  • Niall Heffernan from Informatica, who gave a really timely and well-prepared talk on multi-cloud security

  • Don Reynolds from CRH, who chose two tough topics and delivered brilliantly on both: the importance of clear communications, and managing third-party risk

  • Eoin Keary from Edgescan, for a fantastic session on web app security (who else in Ireland could be better placed to cover this topic!)

  • Ronan Donohue from Broadcom, for a really informative and practical session on contemporary malware threats

Thanks also to all the organisations involved, particularly those giving time off for this type of community project.

Our 30 participants benefited hugely from all these sessions and from everyone's experience. This week we have over a dozen more security and technical sessions, and we're also kicking off our practical projects. Our volunteers have come up with 16 project ideas, meaning the participants have some tough choices to make!
